Gabriela Khazanov, PhD is a licensed clinical psychologist, a Research Psychologist in the Center of Excellence for Substance Addiction Treatment and Education (CESATE) at the Philadelphia VA, and a Research Associate in the Center for Mental Health at the Perelman School of Medicine. Her research focuses on enhancing individuals’ engagement in evidence-based treatments for suicide, substance use, and depression. She is particularly interested in using financial and social incentives, as well as insights from behavioral economics, to increase engagement in these interventions. In addition to her research, Dr. Khazanov leads the VA’s national implementation of Contingency Management. In this role, she supports clinicians in implementing incentive-based interventions to encourage abstinence from substances, medication adherence, and treatment attendance among veterans with substance use disorders. Dr. Khazanov also delivers psychotherapy to veterans with a focus on treating substance use and suicidal ideation.
