Gary Alan Bass, MD, MBA, PhD is pursuing a 2 year Trauma/Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. He hopes to continue his clinical and academic interests in trauma, emergency general surgery, surgical critical care, and the intersection of implementation science and surgical outcomes research.
Following Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Physiology at University College Dublin in Ireland, Dr. Bass completed medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Dr. Bass completed the general surgery residency programme at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2020, and is sitting for Irish/UK (FRCSI) and European (FEBS) board-certification in General & Emergency Surgery. He also completed a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Quantic School of Business in Washington, DC and a PhD in Surgical Sciences at Orebro University in Sweden, where he studied practice patterns, behaviors, and outcomes in complicated biliary calculous disease.
Dr. Bass has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles and has been cited over 1,000 times. He is an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and an Instructor in the Modular Ultrasound for Surgeons Course (MUSEC). He has served on the Emergency Surgery and Visceral Trauma Committees of the European Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery, the Multi Institutional Trials Committee of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST), and the Manuscript and Literature Review Committee of the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST).
