Jie Deng, PhD, RN is an Associate Professor at Penn Nursing. Dr. Deng’s research interests include long-term cancer survivorship, lymphedema management strategies, self-management in cancer survivors, and health care delivery. She has centered her work around an under-recognized, under-studied late effect of head and neck cancer therapy: Lymphedema. Her work has filled critical gaps in this area that facilitate health care providers in scientifically understanding, assessing, and managing this late effect. Her publications have greatly contributed to the body of knowledge of lymphedema in the head and neck cancer population. Her research findings have been adopted into the American Cancer Society Head and Neck Cancer Survivorship Care Guideline (2016). She is one of the leading scholarly experts nationally and internationally in the area of head and neck lymphedema research. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing. She holds a PhD in Nursing Science from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing from Peking University.
