Jonathan Zhu, BSN

Jonathan Zhu, BSN is a PhD student at Penn Nursing and a T32 Fellow at the Newcourtland Center for Transitions and Health. He is interested in exploring the prevalence of opioid use disorder amongst cancer survivors, and how providers can better predict which factors predispose the development of OUD in this population.

Zhu is also actively involved in healthcare innovation and has a strong interest in promoting nurse-led innovation. As an innovation assistant in the Penn Nursing Innovation department, he participated in numerous healthcare hackathons, served on the Venture Lab student advisory board, and worked on initiatives such as Design Thinking for Health, the Amplify Nursing podcast, and the Penn Nursing Innovation Accelerator. He has written publications highlighting the importance of innovation education and participation for nursing students for the American Nurse Journal and Penn Nursing Magazine, and was a featured author in “Taking Action: Top 10 Priorities to Promote Health Equity and Well-Being in Nursing.”

In 2023, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a minor in Psychology. In recognition of his contributions to advancing nursing science, he was selected as the recipient of the Mary D. Naylor Undergraduate Research Award for the Penn Nursing BSN class of 2023.
