Sara Jacoby, PhD, MPH is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Community Health at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Her research is focused on the structural origins of racialized disparities in trauma and violence victimization and how opportunities for injury recovery and health are constructed within American cities and health care systems. This work includes research on operational, policy, and institutional overlap between trauma care and law enforcement and the impact that this intersection has on the experience of patients and other stakeholders across national and international trauma systems. The goal of this continuum of research is to build public health interventions and clinical strategies that support health equity and improve access to the services most needed to prevent injury and support vulnerable populations in the aftermath of trauma.

Dr. Jacoby is a Senior Scholar of the University of Pennsylvania’s Injury Science Center (PISC). She received her undergraduate degree from Rutgers College, her Master of Public Health from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University, and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing, and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania.
