The final external activity of the University of Pennsylvania’s 2019 cohort of the Summer Undergraduate Minority Reseach (SUMR) program was a visit to the College of Physicians of Philadelphia for an afternoon of discussions with that institution’s Karabots Junior Fellows. The talks are generally focused on education and potential health care career issues. Above, members of both groups are gathered on the grand central stairway in the historic building.

The SUMR students are college undergrads and the Karabots students are high school students from underrepresented communities. The programs of both groups immerse them in health care-related experiences and curricula aimed at preparing them for further studies in the health care field.
