Lauren Eberly to Receive 2025 ASCI Young Physician-Scientist Award
Cited for Her Heart Failure Research Among Indigenous Populations

Lauren Eberly, MD, MPH, an LDI Senior Fellow and Assistant Professor at the Perelman School of Medicine, has been named a 2025 recipient of the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) Young Physician-Scientist Award.
The annual award, a recognition of a physician scientist’s early-career achievements, will be presented in April at the joint annual meeting of the ASCI, the Association of American Physicians (AAP), and the American Physician Scientists Association in Chicago in April.
Established in 1908 and one of the nation’s oldest medical honor societies, ASCI is focused on the special role of physician-scientists in research, clinical care, and medical education. It has more than 3,000 members representing all medical specialties.
Staff Cardiologist at Navajo Nation Hospital
Eberly, an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Perelman School, is also a Staff Cardiologist for the Indian Health Service at the Gallup Indian Medical Center, a Navajo Nation hospital in New Mexico. Her research and clinical work focuses on racial disparities in cardiovascular care and advancing equity through implementation science and pragmatic clinical trials.
One of her recent studies developed a simple intervention that increased the uptake of guideline-directed heart failure therapy drugs by 53% in a Navajo Nation patient cohort. She was also a Global Health Equity resident and cardiology fellow working with Partners in Health in Rwanda and Liberia to support health systems strengthening, assisting with implementation of nurse-driven care delivery models for noncommunicable diseases, with a special focus on heart failure.
Eberly earned her MD from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in 2015, and her MPH from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 2019. She completed the Doris and Howard Hiatt Residency in Global Health Equity and Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), and her fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
