Together before dinner at the National Academies of Science Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., are former LDI Executive Director Dan Polsky, PhD, and current LDI Executive Director, Rachel Werner, MD, PhD. Both were on hand for their induction into the prestigious National Academy of Medicine (NAM). When their elections to the body were announced last October, Werner and Polsky became the 27th and 28th LDI Senior Fellows to become Academy members. That they could share the moment made it even more meaningful:

On Saturday, October 19th, the 75 new members announced at last year’s annual meeting assembled with their families at the National Academy of Science Building for this year’s induction ceremony and dinner. Two other University of Pennsylvania scientists — LDI Senior Fellow Susan Domchek, MD, Professor of Oncology at the Perelman School, and Marie Celeste Simon, PhD, Scientific Director of the Abramson Cancer Center — were also inducted at the ceremony. NAM members are chosen for their “major contributions to the advancement of the medical sciences, health care, and public health.”
