Brian Valladares

Williams College, Class of 2021

Major: Chemistry and Economics

Brian Valladares is a rising senior at Williams College where he is pursuing a BA in Chemistry and Economics. After his time at Williams, he is looking to enroll in a PhD program in Health Economics to explore the health outcomes related to resource allocation in minority communities, and methods to improve these supply chains. Over the past summer, he conducted research at MIT on developing N-Heterocyclic Iminophosphazenes (NHIPs) as a novel subclass of superbases.

During the SUMR Program, Valladeres worked on two research projects in the economics department. The first project was with Professor Harsha Thirumurthy, PhD and dealt with the analysis of health outcomes that stemmed from India’s health policies implemented in the past decade. His second project was under the guidance of Professor Juan Pablo Atal, PhD and explored the availability of health care facilities using data from Chile to study inequality in access to health care and its consequences.

At Williams College, Valladeres primarily focused on organic polymer synthesis research. The diblock copolymers serve as a targeted drug delivery system in the efforts to improve the therapeutic effects of drugs. He is looking to blend his interests of chemistry and economics to continue exploring different aspects of the health care field. Outside of academics, he enjoys Latin dance and playing soccer in his free time.
