Anna Liu
Anna Liu is a rising senior at Johns Hopkins University. She is majoring in Economics, with minors in Applied Mathematics and Visual Arts. Her academic and professional interests lie at the intersection of economics, women’s health, and public policy. She is especially passionate about women’s reproductive and mental health, and she hopes to use her background in economics to better understand the barriers to healthcare access and their effects on women’s economic behavior and long-term outcomes.
This summer, Liu is working on two research projects. With Dr. Emily Ko, she is contributing to several mixed-methods projects focused on gynecologic oncology, ranging from sociodemographic and genomic analyses of endometrial cancer to the implementation of a supportive care services program that aims to improve cancer treatment outcomes. Anna is also working with Dr. Jim Guevara on a pilot study that evaluates the feasibility and acceptability of the virtual patient intervention for women experiencing postpartum depressive symptoms.
At Hopkins, Liu is a peer listener with A Place to Talk, serving as a mental health resource to the undergraduate population. She has served as the Director of Communications of TedxJHU and has given a Ted Talk on the complexities of sexual assault within consensual relationships. Academically, she is a research assistant at the Poverty and Inequality Research Lab, where she conducts qualitative research on a project that attempts to understand how and why neighborhoods do or do not experience socioeconomic mobility over time.
In her free time, Anna enjoys oil painting, writing poetry, and running.
