Emily Ko, MD, MSCR

Emily Ko, MD, MSCR is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Gynecologic Oncology. As a clinician-researcher, she provides surgical and medical treatments for patients with gynecologic cancers and precancerous conditions. Additionally, Dr. Ko is a health-services researcher, who focuses on population science-based studies using claims and registry data and developing innovations in care delivery for clinical trials. Her primary areas of interest include addressing disparities and improving access for gynecologic cancer care, especially for endometrial and cervical cancer. In 2023, she was selected as a Robert A. Winn Diversity in Clinical Trials Scholar, focused on identifying solutions to address barriers to clinical trial participation. Dr. Ko has received grant funding from the American Society of Clinical Oncologists, Gynecologic Oncology Group, American Cancer Society, and National Cancer Institute. She bridges clinical expertise with research to inform policy and advocacy efforts, as Chair of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists (SGO) Health Policy and Socioeconomic Committee, and previously as the Chair of the SGO Physicians Payment Reform Taskforce. At Penn, Dr. Ko serves as the Director of the Pennsylvania Hospital Abramson Cancer Center. She is a full member of the Abramson Cancer Center, Clinical Cancer Control division. She also directs the Gynecologic Oncology Population Science Research Group, and mentors multiple trainees through the School of Medicine, MSCE and MSHP programs, as well as LDI SUMR and GEAR Up programs. She also serves as an Associate Program Director for the Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship Program.
