Jeb Jacob
Jeb Jacob is pursuing a BA in Mathematical Economics at the University of Pennsylvania. As a continuous learner, he enjoys the opportunity to address a range of health care issues in an interdisciplinary research environment.
He worked on two empirical economics projects as a SUMR scholar. With Dr. Atul Gupta, PhD he studied how health care providers use advertising to influence patient allocation across providers. This was part of Dr. Gupta’s larger project, “How do Health Care Providers Deploy Public Funds?,” which evaluated the policy outcomes of the Affordable Care Act, particularly in quantifying the impact of the increase in hospital revenue on inputs in care delivery. In the second project, under Dr. Juan Pablo Atal, PhD, he investigated the unprecedented drop in non-COVID-19 visits to emergency rooms. Using data from Chile, they sought to use changes in mobility patterns to uncover the reason behind this phenomenon during the COVID-19 pandemic.
At Penn, Jacob is a Benjamin Franklin Scholar and serves as a Student Entrepreneurship Mentor for local Philadelphia high school entrepreneurs, as part of the Netter Center for Community Partnership’s Bridges to Wealth Program. He also serves on the Wharton Undergraduate Healthcare Club’s Consulting Committee. Besides research, he enjoys reading, running, playing pickup basketball, and spending time with family and friends.
