University of Pennsylvania , Class of 2027

Major: Economics

Rachael Suh is a junior pursuing a BA in Economics at Wellesley College who will be transferring to the University of Pennsylvania starting Fall 2025. She is interested in how socioeconomic determinants shape health systems and outcomes, and ultimately aims to contribute to initiatives that improve healthcare accessibility, ensuring that all individuals—regardless of income or background—can receive the care they need to lead healthier lives. In the future, she hopes to pursue a career that bridges public health and policy, either through an MPH or by specializing in health law and advocacy.

As an SUMR scholar, Suh is involved in two projects. She works with Dr. Joanna Hart, specifically assisting with dissemination of research findings on lung cancer screening (LCS) interventions and trial results to patients, community partners, and clinicians. She also works with Dr. Jaya Aysola and Dr. Renée Betancourt, with a focus on patients’ experiences with the risk, diagnosis, and management of Chronic Kidney Disease Stage-3 (CKD-3) in primary care.

Suh is currently an undergraduate researcher at the MIT Institute for Medical Engineering and Science, specifically working on health equity research involving legal frameworks related to Medicaid policies. At Wellesley, she is part of the Chamber Music Society, where she also serves as recital chair. In her free time, she enjoys reading, playing violin, and spending time with family.
