Jason Tong, MD is a general surgery resident at the University of Pennsylvania with a research focus on better understanding discrimination within health care using consumer reviews and other patient-based narratives. Using these findings, he hopes to develop a universal toolkit for hospitals to better assess for and improve upon health care-based discrimination. He completed his Master’s of Science in Health Policy Research as a National Clinician Scholar in 2022, during which he published his findings analyzing Yelp consumer reviews for discrimination. He will be applying for a colorectal surgery fellowship following the completion of his general surgery training in 2024. He received his MD at the Perelman School of Medicine in 2017.
