Dr. Greysen is Professor and Chief of the Division of Hospital Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine, Executive Director of the Center for Evidence-based Practice (CEP) within the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS), and Core Investigator, Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion (CHERP) at the Corporal Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia.
As Division Chief, he leads the development of academic hospital medicine to promote excellence in education, quality, safety, and research. The Division includes over 150 faculty and advanced practice providers who provide care at Philadelphia downtown hospitals including the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Good Sheppard Penn Partners, and the Philadelphia VAMC. As Executive Director of CEP, he oversees the Center’s mission to perform rigorous assessment and synthesis of evidence and lead the adaptation of evidence-based recommendations to address clinical, operational, and scientific challenges across UPHS entities.
Dr. Greysen’s individual research efforts focus on improving mobility for vulnerable patients due to recent hospitalization, older age, stroke, cancer, surgery, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease. His studies leverage behavioral economics approaches including gamification and wearable technologies to increase physical activity and prevent or reduce disability. He also studies clinical operations to improve hospital-level and provider-level outcomes. His research has been published in JAMA, JAMA Internal Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, and Journal of Hospital Medicine, and has been covered by the New York Times, Washington Post, and National Public Radio.
