Sherif Olanrewaju, PhD, MPS

Sherif Olanrewaju, PhD, MPS is a T32 post-doctoral research fellow at the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research. His research encompasses the intersections of nurse migration, health policy, mental health in older adults, long-term care, and correctional facilities. His research focuses on how migrant nurses’ well-being and work environment are associated with patients’ outcomes. His dissertation is entitled, “Understanding Transition Experiences of Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) Working with Older Adults in Long-Term Care: A Qualitative Descriptive Study.”

As a registered nurse, trade unionist, and experienced mental health professional, Dr. Olanrewaju has over a decade of full-time work experience at Nigeria’s largest psychiatric hospital. He is passionate about advancing health equity and improving the quality of care for vulnerable populations, including racial and ethnic minorities.

Dr. Olanrewaju has received a wide array of accolades, such as the Mark T. Kolanowski Award for Excellence in PhD Nursing Research and the Alumni Society Board Doctoral Nursing Student Academic Excellence Award, both from 2023. He also secured the 2023 Academic Consortium on Criminal Justice Health (ACCJH) Scholarship and the Center for Geriatric Nursing Excellence (CGNE) 2024 PhD Champion Award. Lastly, his leadership service for the Penn State Pan-African Professional Alliance was recognized with the 2023 Annual Student Organization Award for Outstanding Service at PSU.

Dr. Olanrewaju earned his bachelor’s degree in Nursing Science from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, and his Master of Professional Studies in Labor and Global Workers’ Rights and his PhD from Pennsylvania State University.
