Williams College , Class of 2027

Major: Economics and Pyschology

Daniel Carrera Mora is pursuing a B.A. in Economics and Psychology at Williams College. He is passionate about using data to help shape public policy that addresses health and income inequality by improving access to healthcare and education for low-income communities. After graduation, he plans to work at the intersection of healthcare and economics, partnering with policymakers to develop and improve programs that support underserved communities in both developing countries and the United States.

During the SUMR program, Mora is working on two research projects. With Dr. Claudio Lucarelli, he is contributing to a quantitative study analyzing the economic impact of provider incentives on healthcare access and outcomes using difference-in-differences analysis. He is also supporting a policy paper examining how the Inflation Reduction Act may influence healthcare spending and innovation.

Mora’s second project, with Dr. Emily Ko, involves mixed-methods research evaluating the effectiveness and cost-efficiency of a supportive care program for gynecologic cancer patients. In addition, he is contributing to a community-based education initiative that mobilizes former patients to raise awareness within their social networks.

At Williams, Mora works with Associate Professor Susan Godlonton as an Economics Research Assistant, using DHS data to analyze contraceptive rollout in Sub-Saharan Africa and its effects on women’s labor market decisions and fertility. He contributes to Ungated Research, a platform promoting free access to leading economics research for developing countries and low-income communities. He is also the Co-Founder and Treasurer of Arcoíris, Williams’ queer Latinx student organization, which hosts events centered on intersectionality within the queer and Hispanic community. In his free time, he enjoys playing Yu-Gi-Oh, volleyball, and dancing to Latin American and Hispanic music.
