TJ Walsh is a junior at the University of Notre Dame with majors in Biological Sciences and Economics. He is particularly interested in clinical research, focusing on the confluence of health economics and patient care. His experiences as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in high school have led him to pursue a medical degree.

As a SUMR scholar, TJ is working with Dr. Joseph Rossano, Chief of Cardiology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and a Senior Fellow with LDI. TJ will be working with Dr. Rossano to research the epidemiology, risk factors, and outcomes of various pediatric cardiovascular disorders.

At the University of Notre Dame, TJ serves as a research assistant for Dr. Jianneing Li, conducting research on therapeutic resistance and steroid interactions in prostate cancer. TJ also serves as a project leader for Notre Dame’s Student Policy Network, a student organization that conducts policy research and advocacy projects for nonprofits and government agencies. TJ also serves as Vice President for Global Medical Brigades, one of the largest international student-led public health movements, and is an active member of Notre Dame’s student government. Outside school, he serves as Junior Athlete Director for the Eastern Zone of USA Swimming. TJ also continues to work and volunteer as an EMT.
