Yu-Tien Lee
Yu-Tien (Margaret) Lee is currently a DMD candidate in the School of Dental Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She graduated from the University of Southern California with a BS in Human Biology. After graduation, she worked on researching parasite disease ecology and ecological immunology at Kyoto University, Japan.
Through numerous shadowing experiences of dentists around the world, Lee became interested in improving health care coverage, especially for dental care. She also hopes to improve patient comfort, develop better health care policies, and provide more health care options to the underprivileged.
During SUMR, Lee worked with Dr. Claudio Lucarelli, PhD and tried to better understand health care systems and the industrial organization of health care markets. Through an extensive comparison of health care systems around the world, she aspired to improve dental care coverage in the U.S., and ultimately make dental care more accessible to all.
Outside of school, she enjoys international traveling, tutoring math, playing the piano, and origami.
