Daniel J. Hopkins, PhD is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania, and has a courtesy appointment at the Annenberg School for Communication. Professor Hopkins’ research addresses a variety of questions related to American political behavior and policymaking. He is the author of 44 academic articles as well as the book The Increasingly United States: How and Why American Political Behavior Nationalized. Among other topics, his research has examined the role of media framing in shaping attitudes toward the Affordable Care Act. In 2015, he served on the U.S. federal government’s Social and Behavioral Sciences Team, where he assisted in the analysis of an experiment testing different messages to shoppers on the federal health insurance exchange.
Professor Hopkins received his PhD from Harvard University in 2007, is the co-coordinator of the Philadelphia Behavioral Science Initiative, and is an occasional writer for FiveThirtyEight.com.
