Miller Celestin, MSN, RN is a PhD student at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, a Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research (CHOPR) fellow, and a Presidential PhD Fellow. Celestin’s research focuses on reducing health disparities for minority groups in emergency rooms (ERs) in large, urban areas. His research interests stem from personal and professional experiences working in ERs and trauma-surgery units in New York City and Chicago where patients encountered many social, environmental, and institutional barriers that negatively impacted their care. Celestin plans to use his research to help ERs better meet the needs of the communities in which they work and shape legislative and institutional practices that will help patients of color and low-income patients receive high-quality emergency care. Celestin received his MSN from the University of Illinois – Chicago.
