Phuong (Victoria) Pham is a senior at Berea College, where she pursues a double major in Mathematics and Economics with concentration in Models and Methods. She is originally from Vietnam. Her goal is to get a PhD in the healthcare field after she graduates from college. She is particularly interested in cancer and clinical trials research. Therefore, she is very excited to be part of SUMR because the program allows her to prepare for the next step in her career goal.
As a scholar of SUMR 2019, Victoria is working on two different projects, which match with her interests. One project is with Dr. Hamsa Bastani, PhD. The project attempts to develop a method for pre-screening for melanoma via image data in resource-limited countries. The other project is with Dr. Comron Saifi, MD, where she works with spine surgeons to examine all aspects of complications associated with corrective spine surgery at the University of Pennsylvania.
At Berea College, Victoria is working three part-time jobs on campus, including as a teaching assistant for Applied Statistics course, a research assistant for the college development office and as the vice president & equity research analyst in the Investment Club. She loves to cook and do chores when she has free time.
